A Multi-Talented Composer and Artist

Sheet Music for Piano

Jennifer Yoo is a songwriter, composer and lyricist based in the Bay Area with a particular interest in the pop, folk, rock, and classical worlds. Her varied interests and tastes in music give birth to a style that is unique while still being accessible.

Jennifer graduated from Westmont College in 2006 with a BA in English (writing emphasis) with dreams of becoming an English teacher but the draw to create music led her to pursue a graduate degree in music composition at Westminster Choir College in 2007. However, an unfortunate turn of events led to her dropping out of grad school and moving to Portland, OR where she enjoyed being a part of the wonderful music scene there. She was a staff singer at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, All Saints Episcopal Church, and Cantores in Ecclesia. She also enjoyed singing with the Bach Cantata Choir, the Choral Arts Ensemble of Portland, and was a founding member of Kliros.

In 2017 and 2019, she was honored to participate in the Walden School's summer program called the Creative Musicians Retreat as a featured composer where two of her songs were premiered by the Creative Musicians Retreat Chamber Choir. She was also a participant in the composition category in June 2021 and 2022 through St. Vladimir Seminary's Summer Music Institute as well as the Society of St. Romanos the Melodist's Masterclass in the composition and choral conducting categories in 2021.

Jennifer completed her studies at Berklee College of Music online in April 2022 with an Advanced Professional Certificate in Songwriting. Her world of sounds was expanded and challenged in each and every class that she took. Her exposure and in-depth study of contemporary music namely in the rock and pop genres resulted in an explosion of an interesting sonority of colors which is evident in her most recent works.

Currently, she is working diligently under the guidance of Shane Adams and Andrea Stolpe.
